The Death of DataPro EPZ

Do you know that there are only 3 businesses left in the DataPro EPZ compound. Fulton, a chiney man's company and the .bz people. I'm not sure if they will be there much longer either they way things are. What happened?
From the very beginning, the entire datapro epz was a joke! they made false promises to their clients whom bought into it only to have found out otherwise after they setup shop in the compound. Surprizingly, it has survived this long.
The root of the problem from ever since was the crappy internet connection they were providing to their tenents.
The people who setup shop in the datapro compound rely heavily on relaible fast internet connection for the businesses to function, this is mission-critical, without this internet, they rather just closed down. Some did, some moved out of the compound and setup shop else where.
It all started to go down hill after the previous general manager left (this was a man, no name calling here) and his successor took over (a lady) this lady as I understand it had a secretary position at a well establish company, she was made general manager, what a quantum leap! She must have been a good friend of Glen's.
When she took over, she started to change policies, making new rules, all for the worst. She came like she was on a mission to kill datapro, but slowly. She even started firing staff.
Instead of fighting hard to keep their tenents, she went against them. These tenents are the core of the datopro survival and any business would fight to keep them.
Why did the tenents left, mainly becuase datapro (in the form of Intelco) could not provide adequate internet for them and also they did not want BTL to go into the compound to provide Fibre the tenents need badly, and ofcourse the lies continued. It seems Glen wanted to keep the money he was making from them all to himself, not a bad plan, but if it will cost you loosing your tenents, it would have been easier to have BTL provide the internet.
Remember the incident with Fulton and the money laundering case? the case of the pharmacy that also been to court. This same government who brought them into Belize to protect them from the US gov't started to turn their faces on them.
Eventually, the companies got enough of it and either closed down of left Belize. Many Belizeans left without jobs.
Today, since not much activity is happening at DataPro, the security guards are a skeleton crew, the maintance crew is almost none, I don't even think there is a support staff left and if you pass by there at night, you will notice that most of the buildings lights are off all to save on cost, since there are not making much money now because of only 3 tenents remaining.
Its just a matter of time before (a) all tenents leave or (b)Datapro cannot sustain itself and Glen shut up shop pulling the plug. We'll wait and see which comes first.

The Manager of Data Pro Park is now gone, no longer works there. She was the backbone of Data Pro, with her gone, what does that tell us all? They are going downhill at full force!

It couldn't compete with india, the phillipines, pakistan, etc... In india you can hire a person with a masters degree for about 6,000.00 u.s. a year. One of our clients just moved to India, and they have people with Phd's doing work that would normally be done by people with high school diplomas. There is a slight language barrier, although we both speak english, I don't understand them on the first try, but that depends on your line of buisness and if it is a customer service driven business.

The real problem is the fact, that the owner is up to his neck in debts. It's true, that the tenants always complain about the crappy net connection. But, the manager tries her best. She has spoken to the owner on numerous occasions, about the peoples complaints, but he doesn't want to or probably doesn't have the money, to spend on improving his service.

EPZ's are a developing country's dream. Think about it compared to tourism.
DataProEPZ: provide virtual service with no physical infrastructure needs except buildings, brings in foreign currency to stabalize bank floats, drives communication technology infrastructure paid by somone else, jobs but not just any jobs... smart jobs.
Tourism: major infrastructure needs, roads, sidewalks, etc, paid by the people, used by come-and-go tourists. The reef, need I say more, whats the ratio of belizean traffic to tourist traffic on pristine natural resources?
One could go on and on about the benefits of a service sector that brings money in from outside and creates no real waste. Just as one could go on about the future costs that tourism (especially cruise ship tourism from the cheapest cruise line on the planet) invites.
Belize needs to start thinking about the future for children.
The hard pill to swallow with Data Pro is that it appears no corners were cut at all when it came to laying the money down to put in the nicest offshore processing zone in the caribbean (it truly is the nicest). The problem all boils down to that lack of quality control and an "I dont care" attitude. Blame, Glenn? not me, blame the favors glenn owed to his cronies... probably so.

Belizeans just fool
Belize could have been a promising place where businesses could have come in and work offshore. However the biggest thing is the poor fucking internet service. BTL fucking wants so much money for so little prices. U know how many investors have come and tried something but always complain about fucking BTL. BTL are idiots they could well provide the service of fibre optic but they want more $$$$$. They are fucking idiots. First get the clients, give them good service then those clients will bring more clients. Hence more money and more jobs. But fucking BTL is so stupid they dont know what they are doing. Belize is only like aflight away from US and not to mention the only english speaking country in C.A. HELLOOOOO
