So why is America in Iraq?
http://www.csmonitor.com/2005/0815/dailyUpdate.html?s=rss
According to senior white house staff:
"The United States no longer expects to see a model new democracy, a self-supporting oil industry, or a society in which the majority of people are free from serious security or economic challenges, US officials say."
So what is this war all about?
1. WMD (never happened)
2. Saddam + Al Queda Link (none to date)
3. Protect the Oil (not happening)
4. Introduce Democracy to Iraq (lower expectations, it is not realistic)
So in the end the only thing we know for sure is that a whole lot of war profiteering companies made lots of lots of lots of money.
You don't have to go that far.
You don't even have the leave te borders of the states to find people liveing in worse conditions, appalacia for example. Go back in them hills, no power, no phone and water from the creek. But then most of the polititicans came from or went to school in the north east. Funny how most of the soliders come from the south ever wonder why? As to alternative means of power / fuel not being cost effecient that's bullshit. Take solar for example look who owns the companies that make the panels. The bigest is BP wait they are an oil company, that's right that's how come a panel that cost 5 us to make sells for over 600 us. Big Oil / Big Biz rules the world fuck the people.
When life gives you lemons, make lemonade, pee in it, and serve it to the people that piss you off. And supa-fly koncas has some fries if you want some! (No ideal what he might have done with them though :)
Again we all agree on the big picture
but disagree on the tiny specifics. I dislike this vice-president(real decision maker), so there isn't much he can do right in my eyes. My dislike for him is based on his actions and words, not just a blind dislike; now I find Bush to be a real funny guy, I like his barbecue style jokes, in a way I am kinda glad he isn't the decision maker, things might be more fucked up then (speculating on my part).
Bottomline is that there is no real justification for his actions in Iraq, and if its the OIL then that's that, I am tired of these conservative americans talking about, "when we went over there and saw that these people didn't have much, that's when I knew that this is a just cause." Give me a fucking break, I'll send you just south of the border and you'll see people living worst than in Iraq. These jackasses are actually believing this shit, portraying the Iraqis as subhuman, cavemanish and primitive.
Fuck these people were building roads, using math, writing laws while the west was living in caves(paraphrasing steel pulse).
well thats my share of ranting for today.

Everyone knows that there are many other alternative to oil. Nevertheless none is feasible in a major quatity in which it could readily and efficiently replace oil. Nevertheless, even before the war crude oil was trading at level of 26.00 a barrel. It's due to the war that the prices sky rocketed due to the fact of insecurity. If Saddam was still there and no war was waged, the price might have been trading around the 40 per barrels level id say. At one point Iraq was not even exporting it oil and did price did not sky rocket due to the demand. So id say its a illusion that the price of crude would be at $100.00 a barrel if Sadamm was still president. Now it does seem its heading that direction though.
"Bad is never good until worse happens"
Come on Roadie, you know that America's oil dependency
is a deliberate addiction developed by big oil and Wall Street. You know that American technology can and has developed chepaer alternatives. The fact is that George W, and George H before him, are oil warriors.
Check this story at this link out:
Piss energy
If they can make energy from pee, why is that they're so dependent on oil?
As an aside, I know that there are hilarious implications to this story such as imagining driving along and wanting to pee, needing to pee because your vehicle needs the energy versus what happens today.
"On the internet nobody knows you're a dog!"
Bush made the case for war with Iraq
(and polls show that a majority of the American people believed him), by saying that Saddam was a world class threat. We know now that "his army was in disarray, his airforce was obsolete from the first gulf war," but we did not know it back then.
If the US had not invaded Iraq and deposed Saddam, the Western media would still be protraying him as a credible, no make that "incredible" threat to peace in the region.
I grant you that saying oil would have skyrocketted past the $100.00 price per barrel by now without the Iraqi War is speculative opining on my part. I base my speculation on the singular fact that by far the vast majority of the industry analysts that I read opine likewise. Nothing impacts oil prices like security of supply.
Every American President since the "oil shocks" of the 70's, have made protection of US oil supply a top priority. Even that great humanitarian, Jimmy Carter, almost bombed Iran to protect American oil.

SAFER WORLD
ME THINKS THE WORLD WOULD BE A SAFER PLACE WITHOUT AMERICA....
"A Revolution Starts in the Mind"
Easy Answer
OIL
"Drink Up, Smoke Up, Juke Up...nothing else really matters"
Well Accroding to U.S. government intillegence
pre-911, Sadam was in no position to invade any of his neighbors, his army was in disarray, his airforce was obsolete from the first gulf war, the no fly zone to the north prevented him from controling the northern oil fields; the oil embargo was hurting the economy, granted Sadam manage to skim money through smuggling, but that was for his inner circle.
So the whole idea about threaten his neighbors and their oil fields are unfounded. The cost of oil didn't go up until after the invasion, plus Glenn this is the first time that I have ever heard you use speculation(on the higher end) to support your points "oil would have already skyrocketted past the $100.00".
As to Sadam, yes he was a tyrant, but he was given the chemical weapons by the U.S. gov., as a matter of fact Donald Rumsfeld himself meet with sadam, upon delivery. The idea was for him to use it on Iran.

I am at a real dilema
I don't agree with the war. I feel that US picked Iraq because they knew it would have been literally like taking a bulldozer and rolling it over an ant hill. Sadam never stood a chance....However! I am glad that S.O.B is no longer in power so whatever excuses or reasons were given for the war, I find myself questioning does the end justify the means? hmmmmm! can't say. I do know, however, that if I had lost a child to that war I would not be so gong ho on the war either. But I must ask myself, Is the world a safer place without Sadam in it? YES! ferking A it is. However, now the US should extend their rational behind the war to include North Korea.....I would think. Using the argument of WMD...North Korea has admitted they have it. So maybe the war did accomplish something good but the lies that were told to sell it is another story.

You know I hate to disagree with you Roadie,
but you are one of the few persons on this site I can debate socio/politco issues without it turning into a "personal/partisan" quarrel.
China's demand for energy is diminishing oil supply and ratcheting up the price per barrel of oil. If Saddam was still in control of Iraq's oil fields, and was still a threat to Kuwait and Saudi Arabia the price of oil would have already skyrocketted past the $100.00 benchmark, and the inflationary effects would have been debiliating if not crippling to the American economy.
I'm not sure what proportion of the American economy the so-called "military/industrial" complex represents, but it is probably a) still a sizeable portion; b) still very profitable and c) war is still good business.
A stealth bomber, remember, is a billion dollars.
"On the internet nobody knows you're a dog!"
I think that is a thing of the pass,
technology allows these companies to mass produce with a smaller work force. tanks, bombs, boats etc... are now being built by robotic arms.
The current state of the American economy also contradicts this idea.
Plus the troops arn't even equip properly, some of these guys have to their own body armour.
Inflation, unempolyeement etc... is up.
Again, just a few benefited from this war, and so many paid the ultimate price...
here I go on a tangent:
how can you fight a noble war with a set of mercenaries, most of these mercenaries/contractors are the same bunch of murderous mercenaries from South Africa.
everybody knows
war is good for the economy

I think we are all
in the same ballpark, even neo, with his americanization of iraq.
I believe that when all these things are taken into consideration we have a bigger and to some degree more sinister reason.
These guys (the neocons) knew that getting the oil out of Iraq would be near impossible due to security. All the polls and analysis pointed to what is currently going on, so America had a good idea. Look at the numbers:
2K u.s. troops dead.
50K iraqis dead (from the direct conflict, this is not counting stress related deaths of the elderly and infants)
In return 3billion paid out to american companies to date.
So lets recap the numbers:
1. 2K u.s. soldiers dead
2. 40K to 50K iraqis dead.
3. 3 billion plus (all the dollars can't be accounted, I think somewhere around 300 million is unaccounted for).
4. Iraqi artifacts missing (100's of millions of dollars worth of artifacts missing.)
All this caused by one group of people, If the american public knew the truth these guys would be in jail. I refuse to believe that the American public is in on this.
