A big example just resently with the BTL shares, the BTL through sunshine had funding for the 52% shares that GOB had. What did GOB do, they hurry sold the 12% to Ashcroft as a lesser cost and wrote off 12mill$ in taxes.

Why did gov;t do that when in Fact the sunshine people had secured funds already from the bank.

the GOv't clearly did not was Belizeans to control the board of BTL but prefer foreigners. eg M. Ashcroft.

Yes foriegners are privalaged if your rich. But as a whole all forigners pay more fot work and such and don't even get me started on duties and goverment fees which are a lot higher for foriegners. And when it's said forginers are privleged it's not really true people with money and family connects are the ones who are privaleged middle class by american standards are not inculed in that class I can assure you.

Let's break it down. Say they charge 500.00 and hour that would take 1000 hours to equal the amount paid.

Hmm if I wasn’t retired I could replicate the site easily since I get most of the work free by using mambo, and with a little effort for graphics and such in lets say 200 hours. Which is way to much time but good for example so at NL rate I would charge 100,000.00 for my work which is crazy a site of this type would cost at most 10k us to make or 20k BZ but you could get it done much cheaper say around 2k US. This can be verified by doing a simple goggle search. So WTF! Okay so maybe they went around and took a few pictures big deal. There is no way to justify this cost.

I’m a foreigner who retired here I don’t take form the economy I put money into hard currency at that. So don’t run down all foreigners nor think that Belize is the only government that is corrupt got news for you they all are it’s the nature of government.

We tend to use terms loosely here in Belize and sometimes the message gets across the wrong way because of that. I don't think foreigners are being badmouthed as a group, but it is an undeniable fact that foreigners are privileged in this country and this assumed privilege is a source of some resentment. We can argue this if you like.

You fail to comment on the amount of Money 1/2 million for an open source CMS which is easily obtain free from off the net, and so far i have not seen any credit to the open source. it seems like NPL is taking credit for all the work when if fact they only modified a few modules, etc.

With $500,000 i would think and most people that a program would be written from the ground up and this way as any programmer would say its controll and set the direction of the application.

First, thanks for the encouragement to return. Im not really baack completely, but obviously im still reading and as any good addict i cant resist the temptation. Having said that I felt the need to bring up a point that has not been brought up regarding this topic.

From the varying comments its obvious that most of you IT guys are pretty young and are either employed by a company or just starting off in your careers. What you fail to realize is that when Organizations, large companies both local and worldwide make decisions, price is not the only factor one has to consider. These companies have to employ other companies that are well established and can be accountalble for any actions that may jeopardize, delay or affect in anyway their expected outcome. Small companies and individuals carry too much of a risk. Hence the sometimes high prices large companies charge.

I wont comment on the way the company in question got the contract as I do not know all the facts surrounding the contract.

and no I am not affiliated to the "company" in question.....or do i work for GOB or BTB...as can be verified by Prosh or Supa.

i think one of the schools, not sure if cardicom offers web design classes, but your easiest bet would be looking up an html tutorial and reading and trying it out.. It isnt as hard as it seems, but you have to have the knack for coding.

the bid included other kinds of media. I would imagine that if you fill out a questionnaire or form on the site, they should send you some literature in the mail, or something to that effect. Something more appealing that will seal the deal, and encourage you to come to belize. I think it is more than just having a pop up at travelocity or expedia. Then again, I am just thinking or hoping that it includes more than just that pop up.

here is a top marketing site, they would have done a way better job with that website, and tony rath still has to come to these guys to really make a web presense for the the tourist site. I am not into marketing but you want to go with an establish marketing firm, that can put you out there. For example if you go to belize you might not expect the same service at princess that you would expect at some 5 star hotel anywhere else, and the excuse will be, "hey whe you tink dis". Well with the web, there is no excuse, your marketing package has to be tight, cause you are competing with the world. There is no diffrentiation or execuse, when it comes to the marketing you have to shoot for the best, in order to make money.

that site has about 50 to 75 hours in it, there is nothing special about it, granted i havn't seen the admin section. There is no real need for a powerful database, it seems like again, the belizean public got a raw deal. We ordered and paid for a snapper but instead got a plate of cattoe, add the 'e' to make it sound french. We got fucked and they didn't even call us the next day.

Once, i've designed the template, and coded it. I just upload the mambo source files, upload the template, spend some time fixing it up in the backend, maybe customize some of the modules.. and woala!! I've got a open source driven content management system & website!!

If it were a site they build from scratch, including all the above you said, plus system analysis, consulting, etc.. it would cost 100k..

but for mambo dude, the most i'd charge is 25,000 - if that.

Its a rip off i tell you.
