Julio Santos...AGAIN
Marion Ali, Reporting
In 2003 Julio Santos made the news when he was charged with theft. Today, Santos is in the news again after at least thirty thousand dollars allegedly went missing from his last employ, the Border Management Agency, which is housed in this Western Border building in Benque Viejo del Carmen.
Information to News Five says that last week the General Manager of the Agency, Gonzalo Rosado, called in police to investigate when it was discovered that between thirty and forty-five thousand dollars, which were to be deposited in the Agency’s account was not. Rosado was conducting business at the Northern Border when we went to his office today.
Santos, who was the Agency’s supervisor, was also the only person who deposited funds for the agency. We went looking for him at his house in Benque Viejo and also tried to reach him by phone but he was not at home nor was he answering our calls.
Back in 2003 Santos, who was the then Assistant Manager of the Mount Carmel Credit Union, was arrested after over half a million dollars went missing from that institution two years earlier. Santos, who was the Assistant Manager of the Credit Union, was charged with ten counts of Theft but he was never convicted.
The investigating officer in the new case was also not in office at the Benque Viejo Police Station when we visited today. While the initial amount revealed was only in the five figure range, News Five has received information that it might be a much larger amount, over a hundred and sixty thousand dollars that is unaccounted for.
