ANY DEVELOPER KNOWS THAT MOST OF WHAT HE SAID IS NOT TRUE!!!!! I AGREE THAT A FULL ANALYSIS OF THE SYSTEM TO SHOW THE CHECKS AND BALANCE WOULD HAVE TO BE DONE BUT MOST OF WHAT HE SAID IS CRAP.
If the columns in the different datatables were encrypted and he did not have access to the key the maybe I would believe him a little. I am also willing to bet that the important columns like voter's name, adress etc.. are not encrypted because that would have probably been his first statement in defense. I also realize that encrypting all the data tables could cause serious perfomance issues, so thats why I only mentioned columns with private or personal information.
End of Story.
HE PROBABLY HAS COPY OF THAT DATABASE ON ON HIS MACHINE.

Patrick Rogers' Conflict of Interest?
And while Patrick Rogers is a candidate for the Collet division, he is also a software designer. That’s not news but what is news is that Rogers designed database software for the Elections and Boundaries Department. Even more interesting is that recently the department contracted him to service their database of registered electors. Sounds like a conflict of interest but Rogers says if he didn’t have to do it, he wouldn’t but no one else in Belize can.

“As I said I am not retained by the department. I am called on to do a quick fix whenever needed and I go in and do that fix and I am out of there. I work under close supervision. I am never alone with the system and I assure you as I’ve said I put out a challenge – find another Belizean to do it. They have to go out of the country to find the support I’m giving them. I don’t see what the concern is with that database. There is checks and balance there, there are audit trails. Anytime the database is accessed, a record is logged of which user accessed it so I don’t see, I really don’t see a conflict of interest per se especially since we make a point of making sure I signed off before elections.”

...FIRSTLY the PUPs do NOT grant conTRACTS 2 anybody that they r not palsyWALSY with...and SECONDLY how do we know that patrickROGERS is the only GAME in TOWN 4 this sort of thing???...There is something called competitiveBIDDING that the GOV if OBLIGATED 2 upHOLD when the services in question XCDS a certain AMT - iBELEIVE it is about $3,000...That process would have ID'd whether or not mrROGERS had any competition...srROGERS needs to wakeUP and smell the coffee because those of us who know the PUPs know that they would have IMPORTED whatever talents were necessary to service the E & B dataSYSTEMS if THEY, i.e. the PUPs were not in a quidPROquo arrangement with HIM!!!
What PATRICK needs 2 underSTAND is that we KNOW that the PUPs would have let him noWHERE near their electionFILES if it were not in their MUTUAL interest!!!
iMUST confess that i wroteOFF the VIP and in general the 3rdPARTIES when THEY said that they will SUPPORT the electedSENATE on eDAY!!!...This in my mind was an unQUALIFIED endorsement of the PUP and indeed an indicator of WHOM xctly was/is PAYING their BILLs!!!

I find Roger's comment to be ludicrous and offending....
I am not sure what Mr. Rogers meant when he said or inferred that there is no one else in Belize who can do his job. I am not here to discuss his political aspiration but to contend his technical superiority complex. I am not sure what Platform/OS version or any details of the Database/Application that he is referring to but as a Software Engineer myself, I believe the most challenging thing with his App would be the API used to read and render the data. I confident that Belize does have developers who can understand and develop just AS GOOD API's if not better. I would agree that if he is using Oracle it would be a bit more challenging if he is developing in . Application development is not Rocket Science. It's about understanding the logic and creating algorithms which will call the needed variables after they have been processed.
What would we need to know about his DB? Naming Conventions’? Stored Proc? Indexes? SQL is SQL wherever you go. I find it hard to believe that there is no one else in Belize who can write SQL if it is only a DB issue. Mr. Rogers best familiarize himself with things like Scalability, and Commenting his code because as CIS101 teaches you, today your write your code and by tomorrow if not properly commented you may forget what you wrote. If his code is properly commented I can not see why a developer can not go in there and take care of this system.
I guess ultimately he has his prerogatives and purpose for being in this race but obtaining an advantage over his competitors because he is a "Technocorat" does not count. What about Dr. Saunder's who has a PHD in Computer Science couldn't she consult with the Government’s developers?
Well, Belizeans wake and smell the coffee. He is a wrench thrown in there to grab UDP votes!! PUP's manipulation, at work again.
