about cuba
when Fidel Castro was overthrowing the cuban government, there was a lot of violence, and i stress on 'alot'. now the only violence they will see is if the U.S. government decides to invade cuba. Castro did a great thing when he took down that bastard Baoutista who was fucking the cuban people. and the only reason the cuban ppl are living poor is because the U S placed an embargo on them and influence other countries to cut off ties with cuba.
the belizean ppl need to do the same thing, use force to overthrow the musa administration, we need a leader who wants the best or this country and her people. whenever a monevement like that is born i will surely support it. i'll be the first to join.
i encourage u all to try and see a documentary about cuba's leader titled "Fidel-the untold story" its for sale at King's music or try to catch it on K.R.E.M.

START THE PUNISHMENT AT THE TOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"big belly" is right the problem is social crimes are a mirior of the economic condion of this country the government set the presidency .the lack of there convection encourcage the social problem facing belize . it is basic if a man is not bringing home enough to feed his family he might try to get aother job on the side and with the problem out there he will soon try other means which may not be leagal. and that the problem. punishing the people right now will only cause more unrest . but punishing the the big fishes who who do crimes enough to damage many families .then may be the people will be resposible enough to take there punishment to there smaller crimes
i support it
Is support what the Big Belly is saying. we need to move on that and someone needs to start making recommendation to set this started.
"Keeping it Yellow!"
We need a hit squad
Then what happens next horny fly . After they finish with the degenerates and the thirst for blood isn't quenched, who they gonna come for , who is gonna stop them.
History shows us - the spanish inquisition, the Salem whitch hunt, the MacCarthy communist list, The japanese in America during world war II, the hit squads in Guatemala.... and the list goes on.
Listen to big belly the guy makes sense .Good governance. Impartial judges, sensible laws and justice for all. With no one above or beyond the reach of the law. Forget Bush and Musa's behavior and work to build a goverment totally unlike the ones they presently govern.
This is why I am the Lord of the Flies.
i also get your point but
I also get your point and i am analyzing the situation based on how the laws of physics are defined, particularly, Newton's third law which stated that "For every action, there is an opposite and equal reaction". If you pay a man $100/week and he needs $200/week to survive, what else can he do? The legal options are simple, find another job that pays more or try to create an opportunity that will increase his income. Therein lies the problem. Jobs are not easily found and minimum wage is still at $2.25/hour, and opportunity is for a select few in our society. The other option is to steal.
Your methods may solve symtoms, but it may not cure the disease. When you come back to Belize, i challenge you to try and start a business and you will encounter the stumbling blocks for yourself.
Sure, Cuba may have low crime rate, but there is also very limited freedom. Is this what you want for Belize?
Tourism is another story on it's own, but then again only a select few really benefit from tourism in Belize. The opportunities are limited my friend. While i completely agree with the fact that crime needs to be brought under control, particulary these senseless murders, I firmly beleive that all possible execuses that a poor man could use to justify his life of crime should be addressed.
Where help is needed in Belize is to expose corruption at the highest level, with significant evidence that can lead to convictions. This is something that has not been done. We jail people for 5 years for stealing 2 pieces of clothing yet we allow politicians to steal millions. Can you imagine what must be going through that guy's mind when serving a sentence for stealing two pieces of clothing, knowing that others are stealing millions and getting away with it?
For now, I think we need to look at the social and economic issues that are at the heart of the disease and tackle those.

My mini book
I understand when you say that violence brings more, but the violence is there already and we need to put a stop to it. I'm not home right now, but from want I gather, things are not good. There is a need for some serious changes. Yes the politicians need help, but the Belizeans voted them in. I was actually shocked when I heard that PUP won, well actually as shocked as I was when I heard that Bush won also,.. but that is besides the point
The crime and the budget problems are separate. You economists and other scholarly folks can deal with the financial situation. As a military man, I would prefer to deal with the crime. This may sound bad, but there is a reason that the crime rate in Cuba is very low. I think that there is a thin line between respect and fair.
In Belize, criminals are not afraid to do as they please because they know that either they will get away or the punishment will not be as bad. That is one thing that needs to change..
It really upset me when I heard a group of people from where I am said that they went to Belize on a cruise, but they were told that Belize had an imaginary line that if you cross it, you cold be killed for no reason. That is the word on Belize right now..
Hearing that I was so proud to be a BELIZEAN (yeah right)
I’ll stop now because if I continue, this could turn into a book.. Belize needs changes and the changes are needed NOW AHORA
violence begets violence
Crime and violence are simply a product of poor governance. That's where all the efforts for change needs to be focused on.
The minute the violence spews over to politicians, we will have set a precedent that is not easily reversed. History has proven over and over that assasinating political leaders does not work.
Having said that, i will agree that a good "disorderly" demonstration may be just what is needed to get the point across to the pup mafia that the people want change, and what has been done to the finances of our nation will not "blow over like wa lee breeze". Bribery and corruption should not be accepted and people should not stand by and allow this to happen over and over and over and over and over again.
I may seem off target to the point the original poster was trying to make, but i emphasize again, that our crime situation is the product of poor governance.
"It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man!"
Now you're getting the picture
I'm comming back home with politics on my mind.. can't tell my identity yet but I want to know if Belizeans are ready for judge dread type justice..
we need a hit squad
sure dragon gonna get them arrested, but what we really need is a hit squad. every police station in the country knows who teh criminals in their city and towns are. the drug dealers, crackheads, jackers, burglars, whatever just link up with the po-pos and start blasting fools.

spanish_fly needs to re-evaluate
You're wrong man. The mother is completely correct (at least in my eyes). The police are "NOT" there to punish. Their job is to enforce the law, "NOT JUDGE". Her comment was that she has never seen her son in the condition that the police had him and they need not have beaten him to that extent. The thing is that a competent attorney can probably get the guy off now on technicalities that have needlessly been created by the police. If the police understand the scope of their responsibilities and stick to operating within that scope, they will acheive that elusive goal that they so desperately need ... "community involvement" and subsequently closure and justice to the high percentage of unsolved crimes in our nation. Until they understand the scope of their roles and operate within it, nothing positive will be acheived. BOTTOM LINE!
