FreeRinger Makes Free PC-to-Phone Calls To Over 30 Countries

Webapp FreeRinger makes free PC-to-phone calls from your browser to over 30 different countries across the globe—or at least that's the idea. FreeRinger is powered by another free international calling service, Talkster. The calls are ad-supported, so you never have to pay anything, and since the app runs from your browser as a Flash application, you don't have to install anything to use it. Unfortunately FreeRinger, I wasn't able to successfully log in when testing FreeRinger (even after forwarding port 1935, as the troubleshooting page recommended), so I wasn't able to verify the quality. If you give it a try and have better luck, let's hear how it worked in the comments.

Rebuilding After Floods

After the food waters have receded, we Belizeans must begin the huge tasks of getting our lives back on track. It will be hard but there is no other choice. We need to be supportive of one another. Volunteer some of your free time to assist other people to rebuild. Remember, this is a very unexpected expense for most of us and much of the people affected are needy.

From riches to rags! ---WHAT A LOAD OF CRAP!!!!!!

Less than ten years ago, the Novelo brothers were riding high after they borrowed thirty million dollars from the Development Finance Corporation, bought out the competition and then presided over a virtual monopoly of the country’s bus industry.

But on Friday, both men claimed to be “broke,” lucky to have the very shirts on their backs. Unfortunately for them, the DFC isn’t buying the “riches to rags” story, and as part of ongoing proceedings to recover the monies they loaned Tony, David and their father, Hipolito Novelo, the corporation began the tedious task of examining the financial situation of the businessmen and their respective abilities to pay.

Wilmington donates street sweeper to Belize

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The City of Wilmington is doanting a street sweeper to its sister city, Belize.

Orlando Flores, a mechanic from San Pedro, Belize was in town this week to get a feel for the donated street sweeper.

Flores worked with city employees to learn how to operate the machine.

The city of San Pedro in Belize has paved roads, but many are still dirt and because of that soil end ends up on the roads.

San Pedro paid for the repairs to the machine and parts. Flores heads back home Sunday waiting for the arrival of the sweeper.

Wilmington and San Pedro became sister cities in May 2007. The sweeper will be shipped to San Pedro at no cost to the city of Wilmington.

First Dog takes a bite at White House reporter

WASHINGTON (CNN) — President-elect Barack Obama's daughters have been promised a puppy for the White House — President Bush's dog, Barney, demonstrated his technique for dealing with the media Thursday…sinking his teeth into Reuters TV White House correspondent Jon Decker.

Call it a case of biting the hand that covers you.

First Dog Barney and his handler were out on the front lawn for a walk when Reuters' Decker and another reporter approached.

"He looked very nice and friendly," says Decker. "I bent down to pet him and he just snapped at me."

Decker holds up his right index finger, now sporting two band aids. The First Dog's teeth punctured the skin and Decker started bleeding, so he was sent to see presidential physician, Dr. Richard Tubb. Tubb gave Decker a two- to three-day supply of antibiotics, and told him to come back Friday for a tetanus booster.

Paloma - Is this coming our way?

Hurricane Paloma strengthened overnight and is forecast to become a dangerous Category 3 storm this weekend, the National Hurricane Center in Miami, Florida, said Friday.

Hurricane Paloma obscures Cuba and other Caribbean islands in a satellite image taken Friday morning.

At 5 a.m. ET, Paloma was centered about 110 miles south-southwest of Grand Cayman and about 255 miles west of Montego Bay, Jamaica. It had maximum sustained winds of 80 mph.

The storm was tracking to the north at 9 mph and was expected to continue on that path throughout Friday before gradually turning to the northeast by Saturday, forecasters said.

Fuel Prices Down

Tonight, the pump price for a gallon of premium or regular gas is the lowest it’s been since, get this: July of 2003. As we told you it would, the price fell sharply last night, by over $3 a gallon, the largest single price drop on record. A gallon of premium is now only $7.41. That is down three dollars-plus from $10.44. Regular gas dropped to $7.05 a gallon which is a $3.06 decrease from the previous price of $10.11 per gallon. There was also a dramatic drop in the price of diesel which earlier this year topped ten dollars. It had decreased to $9.03 but today it dropped again, sharply – to $6.96. That’s a $2.07 decrease. Kerosene also decreased from $9.17 to $6.79.
