Where is our society heading? Is it total chaos and Anarchy? I am so dissapointed to read Channel 7 news about the total disregards and total loss of respect for our Belizean law enforcement personnel. Is this is a sign of the times in which our country currently stands? If the policemen can not protect the citizenry of a country then who will? What is our government doing to protect us? I remember while I served in the Belize Defence Force, I was fortunate enough to work Police duties. I was sent to patrol the city with the regular police men. There were instances where the policemen were insulted but never attacked. As a soldier, armed with my M-16 I was never approached, insulted or targeted by members of the criminal society(we had permission to Kill - One shot one Kill or you can be Court Martialled and sent to jail if a body was not brought back for an expended shell). Today these cops are so irrelevant in our community that they are even being shot at. Where is our country going? Are these criminals of today so brazen as to attack the core protection of our society? What brought us to this point? In my mind the most readily response I would provide would be "Simple" Economics. Corrupt Ploiticians, Kiss Ass Police Department and lack of jobs for the young people of our nation, that is economics(the study of the distribution of scarce resources).

So what is it like in Belize right now? Is it melancholic,somber or is it just another day in Belize whereby Belizean are non-chalant about Ralphie's death?
