Belize at the Olympics

It's nice to have representation in these games and it builds spirit and morale, pride, patriotism etc....for some of us. However, it is unfair to the Belizean people to have such poor representation, particularly from persons who no longer live in Belize. My goodness...look at Tricia Flores performance...39th out of 39 with a long jump of 17ft. 2 3/4inches.....the second to last place had 19ft. 8 5/8 inches and then the others had over 20ft +. Its ridiculous to have such poor representation and it is my opinion that upon offer we should respectfully decline these athletes. We need to focus on areas that we can possibly make an impact such as boxing because the way i see it all we could do is sack race, lime and spoon, needle and thread, three legged race etc.

Next olympics meet Belize's 3 legged race team...Ras Koncas, Roadfly, and Grep !!!

I too know that they will represent us with pride. But I notice that you did not mention anything about winning. That is because we do not expect them to, even Soony Meighan from the Belize Olympic Association said on Channel 7 news that their chances of winning are slim. Why is that? We know that in sports, what you put in is what you get out. When we see the profiling of the other athletes, we see them training long and hard on a daily basis. They are given the resources to do so by their country. Here we don't do anything for our athletes. We don't even recognize them until about a month or so before the Olympics. We need to place more emphasis on sports and train our athletes if we expect them to do any good for our country. Again, what you put in is what you get out.
