A case for less regulation.
I guess most of you have realized by now that I don't like regulations, license and rules.
I'm a strong proponate of personal responseability. To me it's a goverments job to protect citizens rights not to limit or curtail them. Also it seems to me that most license
are nothing but revenue enhancement measures by goverments.
Okay so an example.
Drivers license:
Detractions:
Creates a database of citizens. (something I always hate)
Cost citizens money
Does not decrease accidents to any large degree
Attractions:
Can't think of any come to that.
Gun control laws:
Detractions:
Creates a database of citizens. (something I always hate)
Cost citizens money
Makes it difficult for law abiding citizens to arm and defend themselfs
Does not decrease gun crime to any large degree most weapons used in crimes are illegal anyway
A criminal by definetion is a crimenal so he or she doesn't mind getting a weapon illegaly
Attractions:
Good for the criminal cause he or she knows that most people can't shoot back
So why do we have them? To me it would be better to enact a law that says if you cause an accicdent because of incompatance either in action, or due to altered state of mind etc. As to weapons pass laws about the commison of crimes while armed. The penalty for both should be severe and then enforce those laws. Problem solved, no paper work, can transfer people working in that department to more meaningful jobs.
This kind of exercise needs to be perform all throughout goverment, think of the money that could be saved and the amount of personel that could be shifted to more meaninful jobs which could make a real difference.
Basicaly my philosipy is that goverment should let people live their lives and only come into play if one person or group of people are interfering with another and to protect citizens from outside invasion. Why is it that people as a group feel that they need a goverment to tell them what they can and cannot do in every minute detail? So the floor is open to debate, now no name calling and such lets talk about it rationaly for once who knows you might change my of opion or even reconsider what you thought before reading this.
You missed my point on the DL big belly.
What I said was the issuance of licesnes does Not decrease accidents in and of itself. I don't have actual numbers but empericaly you can look at accidents reported in the news and noone is every charge with driveing without a license hence forth they had one.

as the saying goes ...
the government that governs least, governs best.
On the point about drivers licenses, i don't have access to the information you have in regards to reduction of accidents due to issuance of licenses, but i beleive that we need some governing body in place to identify traffic violations and the like. I guess these people need to be paid and therefore need to generate revenue somehow, so maybe the most efficient way to guarantee revenue is by charging for the issuance of a license.
Regarding Gun control laws, the only good point i can see regarding this is that if everyone had one, the criminals would think twice about robbing someone cause they know they'd be strapped. Fortunately i've never had the need for a gun and i hope it continues that way.
And lastly ... I firmly beleive that the majority of Belize's citizenry want that dependence on a government. I don't think that our citizenry want anything different and are willing to put up with the bullshit associated with corrupted governments.
I'd say its just another form of revenue enhancement.
I do support blood test as inbreeding is a very bad thing.

"A dog never bites the hand that feeds it (GOB being the DOG)."

And those where just 2 examples
There are hundreds of things of this sort that need to be looked at.
